I don't know if this is true for other commercial printers, but Costco seems to require that the aspect ratio of the image matches the aspect ratio of the paper it's printed on. A Costco technician at their help number told me that the solution is to change the canvas size of the image.For example, I have an image that's 3019 x 4528 pixels. At a resolution of 453 ppi this would ideally print as 6.67" x 10.0," but Costco wants it to be 8" x 10". I can avoid Costco's "crop warning" by (say) adding a 3.33" border to the left side of the image.Does this make sense, and does it sound familiar? Am I dreaming that it really so difficult?Assuming I do need to change the canvas size, then what is the best way to do it? My images are jpegs that have been exported from proof copies in Lightroom. Do I need to take the exported jpegs into Photoshop to change the canvas size? Will Photoshop play games with the printer profile?I am not familiar with the Lightroom Print module. You would need to add a border to create a 8x10 file. If you plan to trim, then placing the border to one side makes sense (only one cut will be needed). If you plan to matte and frame a print, or have people view it as-is, then a good way to
